Year 1 Length and Height Lesson Pack
Teach measurement confidently with this Year 1 length and height lesson pack, designed to support pupils in comparing and measuring length and height through practical, visual learning. Children begin by comparing objects using vocabulary such as longer, shorter, taller and same height, before learning how to measure using non-standard units such as cubes, lolly sticks and paper clips.
Across the week, pupils explore the difference between length and height, order objects by size, and solve simple problems using measurement language. The lessons also address common misconceptions such as not lining objects up correctly, starting from different points, or leaving gaps between measuring units.
