Science Scheme | Year 1 | Block 5: Human Body and Senses | Lesson 2: Can you name the inside parts of the body?
Year 1 inside body parts lesson pack
This Year 1 inside body parts lesson pack helps pupils learn that some parts of the human body are found inside the body. Children are introduced to organs such as the heart, lungs and brain, and begin to understand that organs are special body parts that help us stay alive.
Through discussion, practical activities and scientific vocabulary work, pupils explore how the heart beats and how the pulse can be felt in places such as the wrist and neck. They compare their pulse before and after exercise, helping them make simple observations and talk about changes in the body.
The lesson includes a differentiated Human Body Fact File activity, where pupils label and record information about body parts found inside the body. There are also opportunities for questioning, discussion and addressing misconceptions, including the idea that all body parts are visible.
Lesson pack includes:
- Complete lesson plan with National Curriculum links and assessment opportunities
- Interactive slides introducing organs, x-rays, scans and pulse
- Differentiated Human Body Fact File activity
- Practical pulse investigation and body parts activities
This lesson is part of the Year 1 human body and senses unit, supporting pupils to identify, name, draw and label basic parts of the human body.
