Science Scheme | Year 1 | Block 5: Human Body and Senses | Lesson 1: Can you name body parts?
Year 1 body parts lesson pack
This Year 1 body parts lesson pack introduces pupils to the basic parts of the human body. Children learn to identify, name and label key body parts, building secure vocabulary and early scientific understanding.
Through games, songs and practical activities, pupils explore parts of the body including the head, neck, arms, elbows, legs, knees, face, ears, eyes, hair, mouth and teeth. They practise identifying these on themselves and others, and begin to use accurate scientific language.
The lesson includes a collaborative labelling activity where pupils draw around a body and add labels, supporting discussion, observation and recall. Opportunities for questioning and talk are built in to help address misconceptions and strengthen understanding.
Lesson pack includes:
- Complete lesson plan with National Curriculum links and assessment opportunities
- Interactive slides introducing body parts and key vocabulary
- Labelling activity using a body outline
- Practical tasks to support identification and recall
This lesson introduces the Year 1 human body and senses unit, helping pupils build a secure understanding of body parts before exploring how the body works.
