Science Scheme | Year 1 | Block 5: Human Body and Senses | Lesson 6: Is your hearing as good as an owl?
Year 1 hearing and sound lesson pack
This Year 1 hearing and sound lesson pack helps pupils explore how the sense of hearing works and how we use our ears to identify and locate sounds. Children learn how hearing helps both humans and animals understand their surroundings.
Through practical listening activities, pupils investigate how sounds can be recognised and where they come from. They take part in games where they identify hidden objects by sound and use careful listening to locate sounds in different directions.
The lesson also introduces how animals, such as owls, rely on their sense of hearing to survive. Pupils compare human hearing with animal hearing and begin to understand how sound can be easier or harder to detect depending on background noise.
Lesson pack includes:
- Complete lesson plan with National Curriculum links and assessment opportunities
- Interactive slides introducing hearing and sound
- Listening games and sound identification activities
- Recording sheet for evaluating different sounds
This lesson is part of the Year 1 human body and senses unit and supports pupils to explore how hearing helps us and other animals respond to the world around us.
