Small Steps: Counting objects to 10 activity
Aligned with the maths mastery approach, our Year 1 | Counting Objects to 10 Matching Activity is designed to go alongside our year 1 maths mastery lesson presentations, where the learning has been modelled. This activity is designed to cover the following objectives:
- Topic: place value>counting objects
- Small Steps: count objects
- National Curriculum: Count to ten. Count, read and write numbers to 10 in numerals. Identify and represent numbers using objects.
This activity would work really well as an enhanced provision activity – using a tuff tray! Cut the cards up and spread them out, and challenge children to match the number to the number of objects. When children have found the correct match, ask them to explain why they chose that card. Then practise counting together!
