Year 1 weather report lesson

This Year 1 weather report lesson helps pupils apply their understanding of weather and seasonal changes by creating and presenting their own weather reports. As the final lesson in the Seasonal Changes and Weather unit, pupils use scientific vocabulary, weather symbols and observations to communicate what they have learned about weather patterns throughout the year.

Through discussion, observation and presentation activities, pupils explore how weather can be recorded and reported. They draw on their knowledge of seasonal weather, day length and weather symbols while developing confidence in speaking about scientific observations.

Lesson includes

  • Interactive teaching slides with teacher guidance and modelling
  • Detailed lesson plan with vocabulary, misconceptions, assessment opportunities and prior learning
  • Differentiated worksheets and follow-up activities
  • Weather report templates and presentation activities
  • Practical enquiry opportunities linked to weather observation

This Year 1 seasonal changes lesson supports National Curriculum objectives by helping pupils observe and describe weather associated with the seasons, recognise patterns and communicate findings using appropriate scientific vocabulary.
