Year 1 seasonal weather lesson

This Year 1 seasonal weather lesson helps pupils explore how weather changes across the four seasons and how these changes affect everyday life. Through observation, discussion and practical activities, pupils investigate seasonal weather patterns and begin using scientific vocabulary to describe different weather conditions.

As part of the Seasonal Changes and Weather unit, pupils compare weather across spring, summer, autumn and winter while discussing suitable clothing, activities and equipment for different weather conditions. The lesson helps children make connections between weather observations and seasonal change.

Lesson includes

  • Interactive teaching slides with teacher guidance and modelling
  • Detailed lesson plan with vocabulary, misconceptions, prior learning and assessment opportunities
  • Differentiated worksheets linked to seasonal weather and clothing choices
  • Practical activities including weather role-play and outdoor observation
  • Resources to support discussion, comparison and scientific vocabulary development

This Year 1 seasonal changes lesson supports National Curriculum objectives by helping pupils observe and describe weather associated with the seasons. It also develops observation, comparison and communication skills through practical scientific enquiry activities.
