Year 1 Science The Seasons Lesson (Seasonal Changes – Lesson 2)
This Year 1 science the seasons lesson helps children understand how weather and nature change throughout the year. Pupils explore spring, summer, autumn and winter through pictures, discussion, movement and simple science vocabulary.
It’s the second lesson in our Seasonal Changes unit and builds on observations made in Lesson 1. Children begin to link weather patterns with the seasons, explore how trees change, and recognise that these changes happen gradually over time.
Lesson includes:
- Interactive slides with seasonal images, vocabulary prompts and a poem with actions
- Full lesson plan with key questions, misconceptions and curriculum links
- ‘Seasons corners’ movement activity to help reinforce learning through action
- Fully differentiated worksheets – from matching and tracing to full sentence writing
This Year 1 science the seasons lesson supports National Curriculum objectives around observing changes across the four seasons and describing seasonal weather and day length. It also develops disciplinary skills such as comparison, observation and describing features of trees.
Includes built-in continuous provision ideas, such as seasonal tuff tray activities, collage resources and sensory exploration:contentReference[oaicite:0]{index=0}.
