Lesson 1: What is the Weather?
Year 1/2 mixed-age geography lesson pack – What is the weather?
This Year 1/2 mixed-age geography lesson pack is part of our Glorious Geography scheme. Created for mixed-age classes, it helps schools teach Year 1 and Year 2 together while building geographical knowledge and skills across KS1.
Our mixed-age geography scheme follows a two-year cycle so pupils do not repeat the same blocks. In the first year, all pupils follow the Cycle A blocks. In the second year, they move on to Cycle B, giving schools a clear and practical way to plan geography across KS1.
Lesson 1: What is the Weather? is the first lesson in Cycle B Block 3 for mixed-age Year 1/2. The blocks are designed to be taught in order, but can also be adapted to fit your own curriculum.
This lesson pack introduces pupils to weather and helps them begin to observe, describe and discuss different weather conditions. It supports early geographical understanding through practical learning and discussion.
Each lesson pack includes:
- An enquiry-based approach with opportunities to develop geographical and fieldwork skills
- Comprehensive lesson plans with vocabulary, misconceptions, cross-curricular links, key questions and assessment opportunities
- Teacher knowledge and prior learning to support confident teaching
- Editable PowerPoints that model the learning
- Differentiated worksheets and activities
