Geography Scheme | Year 1/2 | Cycle A | Block 3: Why do They Live There? | Lesson 1: Where am I?
Year 1/2 mixed-age geography lesson pack – Where am I?
This Year 1/2 mixed-age geography lesson pack is part of our Glorious Geography scheme. It has been carefully structured for mixed-age classes, supporting pupils in both Year 1 and Year 2 to build geographical understanding together while still making clear progress.
The scheme follows a two-year cycle. In Cycle A, all pupils study one set of blocks. In Cycle B, they move on to a different set, ensuring full coverage without repetition across KS1.
Geography Scheme | Year 1/2 | Cycle A | Block 3: Why do They Live There? | Lesson 1: Where am I? is the first lesson in this block. Pupils begin to develop their sense of place, exploring where they are in the world and how locations can be described and understood.
This lesson focuses on building early map awareness and helping pupils make connections between their immediate surroundings and the wider world.
Each lesson pack includes:
- An enquiry-based approach with opportunities to develop geographical understanding and fieldwork skills
- Comprehensive lesson plans with vocabulary, misconceptions, cross-curricular links, key questions and assessment opportunities
- Teacher knowledge and prior learning to support confident teaching
- Editable PowerPoints that model the learning
