Reception Geography Lesson – UK Map
This Reception geography lesson on the UK map is part of our EYFS Geography Block 1: Street and House Detectives. Children begin to identify their local area on a UK map or globe, recognise familiar places, and understand that maps represent land and sea. They also start to name the four countries of the United Kingdom and learn how addresses and postcodes show specific locations.

Show children how to zoom in on an online map from the whole world into their own school building. This helps them understand scale and how maps represent different levels of detail. Reinforce vocabulary like village, town, city and country to build confidence with geographical terms.
Cross-curricular links
Literacy: add labels or captions to maps, write postcards imagining a visit to a landmark. Maths: use positional language to describe location, direction and movement.
