Reception Geography Lesson – Weather Forecast

This Reception geography lesson on weather forecasting is part of EYFS Geography Block 2: What Is the Weather Like?. Children learn how forecasters predict the weather, watch a short forecast, and then role play giving their own. Using a UK map and weather symbols, they practise placing rain, sun or snow in different locations and talk about which clothing would be most suitable.

Teaching tip

Let children role play as weather forecasters in pairs or small groups. Provide a large map and encourage them to use positional language such as north, south, next to or over. Extend learning by dressing dolls or toys for different weather types to reinforce vocabulary and reasoning.

Literacy: speaking in full sentences to describe weather conditions. Maths: using positional language and recognising numbers in forecasts. PSHE: keeping safe in different weather (sun cream, hats, coats, umbrellas).
