Develop early spatial awareness and problem-solving with this Nursery Shape and Puzzles maths lesson pack. The children explore how shapes and objects fit together, complete simple puzzles and begin to use spatial reasoning as they match, position and view objects in different ways.

Across the six lessons, the children complete shape matching puzzles and simple jigsaws before matching real objects to pictures and shadows. They explore what objects look like from different positions and use lines and curves to create simple routes, developing their understanding of shape, space and position through practical experiences.

The six lessons are designed to be taught flexibly over approximately two weeks, with around three lessons each week. This allows time for the children to revisit their learning through continuous provision and everyday routines, and works well in Nursery settings where children may attend on different days.

These practical Nursery shape and puzzle activities encourage the children to look closely, make comparisons and work out how objects relate to one another.
