Year 1 everyday materials lesson 6: selecting materials
Our Year 1 everyday materials lesson 6 focuses on selecting materials for a specific purpose. This lesson is part of our Scintillating Science scheme of work and helps pupils apply their understanding of material properties in a meaningful context.
In this lesson, pupils help Minifluff choose the best materials to build a spaceship. They use their knowledge to answer questions, label diagrams, and explain their choices, developing scientific enquiry skills through a hands-on challenge.
Includes:
- Structured lesson plan with vocabulary, misconceptions, and prior learning
- Interactive slides with modelling and prompts
- A3 worksheet to support drawing and labelling
