Reception Science Bread Making Lesson – Observing Changes Through Cooking
This Reception bread making science activity helps children explore how materials change when heated, using a simple hands-on cooking task. As part of our Mini Scientists science unit, pupils mix ingredients, bake bread, and observe what happens – supporting scientific thinking in a meaningful, real-life context.
This EYFS science lesson focuses on performing simple tests and using equipment. Children follow a step-by-step bread recipe, talk about textures and smells, and describe the changes they see. Includes optional messy play with flour and dough, and a sandwich survey to practise gathering data.
