Reception PSED intervention – Tilly and the Journey of Me week 2: The Land of Who I Am
This Reception PSED intervention resource provides Week 2 of Tilly and the Journey of Me, a six-week FLIP intervention unit designed to support Reception pupils who require additional support with Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED).
Across the full six-week unit, pupils take part in short, structured sessions designed to support self-regulation, emotional development and social skills. Children join Tilly the teddy on a magical journey to different imaginative lands, using stories, discussion and guided activities to explore feelings, relationships and strategies for managing emotions.
This resource provides the complete second week of the intervention, with five short PSED sessions based around Tilly’s second destination, The Land of Who I Am. The week’s key learning is to help pupils talk about their own feelings, recognise their strengths and areas of difficulty, and talk about their abilities and preferences.
What does Week 2 cover?
The five PSED sessions focus on:
- My likes and challenges – recognising things pupils are good at, enjoy and may find more difficult.
- Happy and sad – sorting different scenarios according to how they might make themselves and others feel.
- Angry and calm – exploring situations that may lead to different emotional responses.
- What do I feel inside? – recognising how different experiences and emotions can feel inside the body.
- Big and small feelings – exploring the intensity of different emotions and recognising that the same situation may affect people differently.
Using Week 2 as part of the Reception PSED intervention
Tilly and the Journey of Me is a structured six-week intervention rather than a collection of standalone activities. Each session is designed to take a maximum of 10 minutes and can be delivered 1:1, in pairs or in a small group.
Practitioners should use the FLIP Identification and Progression Toolkit to help identify which pupils should take part and monitor their progress. Practitioner Notes can be used throughout the sessions to record observations and help inform appropriate next steps.
This week forms part of the full Tilly and the Journey of Me six-week PSED intervention. You can also explore the wider FLIP Foundations for Learning Intervention Programme to find out more about identification, targeted intervention and progress monitoring.
