EYFS PSED intervention – Tilly and the Journey of Me week 1: The Land of Feelings
This EYFS PSED intervention resource provides Week 1 of Tilly and the Journey of Me, a six-week FLIP intervention unit designed to support Reception pupils who require additional support with Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED).
Across the full six-week unit, pupils take part in short, structured sessions designed to support self-regulation, emotional development and social skills. Children join Tilly the teddy on a magical journey to different imaginative lands, using stories, play and guided activities to explore feelings, relationships and strategies for managing emotions.
This resource provides the complete first week of the intervention, with five short PSED sessions based around Tilly’s first destination, The Land of Feelings. The week’s key learning is to identify feelings and basic emotions and begin to link feelings to experiences.
What does Week 1 cover?
The five PSED sessions focus on:
- Feelings hide and seek – identifying emotions from facial expressions and discussing why someone might feel that way.
- Feelings bingo – linking different experiences and situations to possible emotions.
- Tilly is feeling… – listening to Tilly’s story, identifying how she might be feeling and explaining why.
- Blob tree characters – exploring how different characters might be feeling and relating this to children’s own feelings.
- What does a feeling feel like? – exploring how different emotions can feel inside our bodies.
Using Week 1 as part of the EYFS PSED intervention
Tilly and the Journey of Me is a structured six-week intervention rather than a collection of standalone activities. Each session is designed to take a maximum of 10 minutes and can be delivered 1:1, in pairs or in a small group.
Practitioners should use the FLIP Identification and Progression Toolkit to help identify which pupils should take part and monitor their progress. Practitioner Notes can be used throughout the sessions to record observations and help inform appropriate next steps.
This week forms part of the full Tilly and the Journey of Me six-week PSED intervention. You can also explore the wider FLIP Foundations for Learning Intervention Programme to find out more about identification, targeted intervention and progress monitoring.
