Phase 3 Read and Colour Worksheets
Our Phase 3 Read and Colour worksheets help children practise blending Phase 3 graphemes in context. Pupils read short captions such as “The red car is on the road” or “Her hair is red with a curl”, then colour the matching pictures to show understanding. This activity encourages decoding fluency, comprehension and early reading confidence.
By combining phonics with a colouring task, pupils are motivated to read each caption carefully, ensuring they link sounds to meaning before applying it. These worksheets work well for independent tasks, guided reading groups, or phonics interventions.
This resource is fully aligned with the updated 2021 Letters and Sounds progression and supports early reading development in the EYFS and beyond.
Teaching tip
Ask pupils to highlight or underline the Phase 3 graphemes in each caption before they begin colouring. This reinforces recognition of new sounds and helps children focus on accurate decoding.
