Geography Scheme | Year 1/2 | Cycle B | Block 1: If You go Down to the Woods Today | Lesson 5: Let’s Make a Forest Map
Year 1/2 mixed-age geography lesson pack – Let’s make a forest map
This Year 1/2 mixed-age geography lesson pack is part of our Glorious Geography scheme. Designed specifically for mixed-age classes, it supports schools teaching Year 1 and Year 2 together while maintaining full national curriculum coverage.
The scheme follows a clear two-year cycle. In Cycle A, all pupils study one set of blocks. In Cycle B, they move on to a different set. This ensures pupils do not repeat the same content across KS1 while continuing to build their geographical knowledge and skills.
Geography Scheme | Year 1/2 | Cycle B | Block 1: If You go Down to the Woods Today | Lesson 5: Let’s Make a Forest Map forms part of the mixed-age sequence. The blocks are designed to be taught in order but can be adapted to suit your own school curriculum.
This lesson helps pupils apply their knowledge of woodland environments by creating a simple forest map, developing early mapping skills and a clearer understanding of features within a place.
Each lesson pack includes:
- An enquiry-based approach with opportunities to develop geographical understanding and fieldwork skills
- Comprehensive lesson plans with vocabulary, misconceptions, cross-curricular links, key questions and assessment opportunities
- Teacher knowledge and prior learning to support confident teaching
- Editable PowerPoints that model the learning
- Differentiated worksheets and activities
