Build children’s confidence with the ‘g’ grapheme through a combination of Phase 2 phonics and letter formation activities. These letter ‘g’ worksheets for Reception help children recognise the grapheme, connect it with the /g/ phoneme and practise the movements needed to form lowercase ‘g’ accurately.

The 7-page letter ‘g’ worksheet pack starts with large finger-tracing and guided letter formation before progressing to tracing different-sized letters and practising ‘g’ on handwriting lines. Children also search for the ‘g’ grapheme amongst other letters, identify pictures beginning with /g/ and find ‘g’ within a simple sentence-based activity.

Phonics and handwriting skills are brought together on the final activity sheet, where children identify initial /g/ sounds, trace lowercase and uppercase letters, practise words including get, gold, good and bang, and distinguish ‘g’ from other graphemes. This gives children repeated opportunities to hear, recognise, read and write the focus grapheme.

The ‘g’ grapheme and /g/ phoneme are introduced during Phase 2 phonics. Use the pack to consolidate ‘g’ after it has been taught, as part of a Reception phonics or handwriting session, for adult-led focus work, independent practice, continuous provision or additional support with grapheme recognition and letter formation.
