Give children plenty of opportunities to practise the correct formation of lowercase ‘c’ with these letter ‘c’ formation worksheets for Reception. Children begin with a large finger-tracing activity that clearly shows the formation movement, before progressing to tracing letters in different sizes and practising ‘c’ accurately on handwriting lines.

Across this 7-page letter ‘c’ formation and handwriting pack, children develop familiarity with the shape of ‘c’ through tracing, letter recognition and early phonics activities. They find ‘c’ amongst other letters, identify pictures beginning with /c/, practise formation on handwriting lines and spot the grapheme within simple text. A final activity brings together letter tracing, word tracing, initial sounds and letter recognition.

The pack is useful for building the repeated movement and visual familiarity children need when learning how to form the letter ‘c’. Moving from large-scale tracing to more controlled handwriting practice supports pencil control, while the recognition activities encourage children to identify ‘c’ confidently amongst other letter shapes.

Use these letter ‘c’ worksheets during Reception handwriting and letter formation sessions, alongside phonics teaching, for adult-led focus work, within continuous provision or as additional practice for children developing early handwriting skills. The ‘c’ grapheme representing /k/ is introduced during Phase 2 phonics, so the activities can also reinforce the connection between the letter children are forming and the sound it represents.
