Consolidate the ‘o’ grapheme and /o/ phoneme while developing accurate letter formation with these letter ‘o’ phonics and letter formation worksheets for Reception. The activities combine Phase 2 phonics practice with tracing, handwriting and letter recognition, helping children connect the sound they hear with the grapheme they read and write.

Across this 7-page letter ‘o’ worksheet pack, children finger-trace the correct formation of lowercase ‘o’, trace letters in different sizes and practise forming ‘o’ on handwriting lines. Phonics activities encourage children to recognise the ‘o’ grapheme amongst other letters, identify pictures beginning with /o/ and find ‘o’ within simple text.

A final consolidation activity brings the skills together as children identify pictures beginning with /o/, trace letters and words and distinguish ‘o’ from other graphemes. This combination of phonics and handwriting practice gives children repeated opportunities to recognise, say, read and form the focus grapheme.

The ‘o’ grapheme and /o/ phoneme are introduced during Phase 2 phonics. Use these worksheets after ‘o’ has been taught to consolidate learning, during adult-led phonics or handwriting sessions, for independent practice, within continuous provision or with children who need additional practice recognising and forming the grapheme.
