Year 2 geography extreme weather lesson – How would extreme weather affect our school?

In this Year 2 geography lesson, pupils investigate the impact of extreme weather on people, places and their own school. As part of our Seasonal and Daily Weather Patterns unit, children explore blizzards, heatwaves, floods, droughts, tornadoes and hurricanes, learning how these weather events affect lives and environments. Using videos, photographs and role-play, pupils compare extreme weather around the world with events that sometimes occur in the UK. They discuss misconceptions such as “tornadoes only happen in the USA” or “autumn storms are hurricanes” and begin to think critically about how communities prepare for and respond to dangerous weather.
