Éist agus Déan (Listen and Do Playdough Mats) | Rebecca The Irish Teacher Range. These are colourful, fun playdough mats that allow children to engage in hands-on activities, while learning topic-based vocabulary as Gaeilge. The idea is to inject some fun, practical elements to your Gaeilge lessons, without too much preparation on you.

This set are part of the ‘Bia’ theme.

There are five different playdough mats included. The first type contains images of different types of food, which the children can engage with. To introduce this playdough mat, the teacher can call out phrases such as ‘cuir do mhéar ar…’ and the children can practice putting their finger on the different types of food.

From there, the teacher can engage in the ‘éist agus déan’ element of this resource. When the teacher calls out a type of food as Gaeilge, for example úll, the children would then use their playdough to create an apple (úll) over the image provided on the playdough mat.

The second type of playdough mats included is more open in terms of children’s creations and also the type of food that you can ask the children to make. The teacher can call out some food items as Gaeilge and the children can listen and then create these food items on the playdough mats provided.

There are some images with the vocabulary as Gaeilge included too if some more capable students wish to label their playdough creations. Always great to expose children to the print as well. They could even draw their own labels in the blank spaces in they so wish.

Many uses with this resource, which can be used again and again.
