Tilly and the Journey of Me PSED intervention – Unit guide and overview
This Tilly and the Journey of Me Unit Guide and Overview provides practitioners with the guidance needed to plan and deliver this six-week Reception PSED intervention as part of the Foundations for Learning Intervention Programme (FLIP).
Tilly and the Journey of Me supports children entering Reception who require additional help with self-regulation, emotional development and social skills. Through short, structured sessions, children develop emotional awareness, practise simple calming strategies, build positive relationships and develop cooperation, resilience and a confident have-a-go attitude.
What is included in the Unit Guide?
The guide provides:
- Programme overview – an introduction to the purpose and structure of Tilly and the Journey of Me.
- Intent and intended outcomes – including emotional awareness, self-regulation and the wider foundations for learning.
- Delivery guidance – how to prepare for and deliver the intervention 1:1 or in a small group.
- Six-week learning sequence – showing the key learning and vocabulary developed across each stage of the programme.
- Weekly themes – from the Land of Feelings through to the Land of the Brave.
- Preparation checklists – resources needed for each of the six weeks, including those provided as part of the programme.
- End-of-programme guidance – how to review evidence, evaluate progress and decide appropriate next steps.
A structured six-week Reception PSED intervention
The programme progresses from recognising and talking about feelings to developing self-regulation, relationships, cooperation and resilience. Each session takes approximately 10 minutes a day and can be delivered 1:1 or in a small group by a teacher or teaching assistant.
Practitioners should use the Unit Guide alongside the FLIP Identification and Progression Toolkit, Practitioner Notes and Participation Log to identify children, record observations, monitor progress and inform decisions about next steps.
