Our Year 6 science resources provide clear lesson sequences for teaching Light and Evolution and Inheritance. Pupils develop scientific knowledge alongside the Working Scientifically skills expected in Upper KS2, with opportunities to investigate, analyse evidence and explain their findings.
Pupils explore how light travels, how we see objects and how light is reflected. They investigate shadows and use the idea that light travels in straight lines to explain what they observe, with opportunities to extend learning through other light phenomena.
Pupils develop their understanding of inheritance, variation, adaptation and evolution, using evidence including fossils to explore how living things have changed over time.
Across the units, pupils have opportunities to plan scientific enquiries, consider variables, take accurate measurements, record and present results, identify patterns and relationships, use evidence to draw conclusions and evaluate their findings.
