About our Year 1 science units

These Year 1 science units support pupils in developing early scientific understanding through practical investigation, observation and discussion. Lessons are designed to build confidence with scientific vocabulary and enquiry while helping pupils make sense of the world around them through meaningful, hands-on learning.

Across the year, pupils explore seasonal weather patterns, materials and their properties, plants, animals and the human body. The units encourage pupils to ask questions, identify patterns, compare findings and begin recording results using simple scientific methods.

Part of our Scintillating Science scheme, these units support progression from EYFS science through to KS2 science, with clear curriculum progression and practical enquiry embedded throughout.
