Summer Block 5: Converting units (Year 5)

This Year 5 converting units unit helps pupils develop confidence when converting between metric units of measure and applying their understanding to practical measurement problems. Aligned with White Rose Maths and the Year 5 National Curriculum, the block builds fluency with length, mass, capacity and time while introducing approximate metric and imperial equivalents.

Across the unit, pupils convert between kilograms and grams, kilometres and metres, millimetres and metres, and litres and millilitres before applying these skills to solve measurement problems. They also convert units of time, calculate with timetables and explore the relationship between metric and common imperial units.
