This block develops pupils’ understanding of shape through a structured focus on angles and geometric reasoning. Pupils begin by revisiting angles as measures of turn, using degrees to classify, estimate and measure angles accurately.

As the unit progresses, pupils draw lines and angles with increasing precision and apply their knowledge to calculate missing angles around a point and on a straight line. They then move on to exploring lengths and angles within shapes, before extending their understanding to regular and irregular polygons and the properties of 3-D shapes. Reasoning and problem-solving opportunities are built throughout to support pupils in explaining methods and justifying their thinking.
