This block develops pupils’ understanding of decimal numbers and their relationship to fractions and percentages. Children begin by reading, writing and comparing decimals up to 3 decimal places, using place value knowledge to support accuracy and confidence.

Across the unit, pupils explore equivalence between fractions, decimals and percentages, learn how to round decimals, and build a secure understanding of percentages as parts per hundred. Visual models, number lines and structured reasoning tasks are used throughout to deepen understanding and support problem solving.

  • Solve problems which require knowing percentage and decimal equivalents of common fractions

Our Year 5 decimals and percentages resources for Spring Block 3 follow the White Rose small steps and provide a clear progression from understanding decimal place value to recognising equivalence between fractions, decimals and percentages. Each lesson builds securely on prior learning and supports pupils in developing confidence with decimal notation and rounding.

These Year 5 decimals worksheets and lesson resources include teaching slides, differentiated worksheets and targeted reasoning and problem-solving tasks. They help pupils order, compare and round decimals accurately, while also building a secure understanding of percentages and their connection to fractions and hundredths.
