Year 5 Autumn Block 4 (Fractions)

Year 5 Maths – Autumn Block 4: Fractions

Download our free Year 5 maths overview. Explore maths subject leader resources.

This block builds pupils’ confidence with fractions through a clear and structured sequence. Children begin by exploring equivalent fractions using bar models, number lines and factor relationships. They then learn how to convert between improper fractions and mixed numbers using visual models and efficient written methods.

The sequence develops into comparing and ordering fractions less than and greater than one, before moving on to adding and subtracting fractions with related denominators. Pupils work with totals greater than one, mixed numbers and problems that require regrouping or breaking the whole.

Every lesson pack includes differentiated worksheets, teaching slides and detailed planning aligned with the White Rose small steps, supporting fluency, reasoning and problem-solving throughout the unit.
