This block marks the start of Spring term learning in our EYFS maths scheme of work, focusing on numbers 0 to 5. Pupils explore the meaning of zero and practise subitising using hands-on and visual activities such as dot patterns, five-frames and number tracks. These early number skills support fluency, confidence and strong number sense.
Pupils learn to represent and compare quantities using practical resources and begin to understand number composition, including the concepts of one more and one less. With strong foundations as the priority, pupils are supported to use accurate mathematical language and explain how they know.
