Year 5 Geography Block 2

Year 5 Geography – Down by the Sea (Coasts of the UK)

This Year 5 geography unit introduces pupils to the coasts of the UK, helping them understand how coastal features are formed and how coastlines change over time. Aligned with the National Curriculum, pupils explore coastal erosion, different types of beaches and how people use coastal environments.

Across six lessons, this Year 5 geography planning supports pupils in identifying UK coastal features, understanding physical processes such as erosion, and investigating how human activity affects the coastline. Pupils also develop map skills by locating and labelling coastal areas.

Part of our KS2 geography scheme of work, which was highly commended by the Geographical Association, this unit provides structured geography lesson plans for Year 5 with clear progression in key skills.
