Year 1 Geography Block 2

Year 1 Geography – Is it Hot or Cold?

This Year 1 geography unit introduces pupils to climate zones, continents and oceans, helping them understand how the world is organised and how places can differ. Aligned with the National Curriculum, pupils develop map skills in Year 1, build geographical vocabulary and begin to explore hot and cold places around the world.

Across six lessons, this Year 1 geography planning supports pupils in locating continents and oceans, using maps and globes, and recognising differences between climates. Pupils learn about the Arctic and Antarctic, compare environments and begin to understand how people and animals adapt to different conditions.

Part of our KS1 geography scheme of work, which was highly commended by the Geographical Association, this unit provides structured geography lesson plans for Year 1 with clear progression in key skills.
