EYFS Geography Block 2

EYFS Geography – What is the Weather Like?

This EYFS weather unit supports Reception pupils in exploring daily weather through observation, discussion and simple recording. Linked to Understanding the World, pupils learn to describe the weather, use key vocabulary and begin to recognise patterns and changes over time.

Across six lessons, this Reception weather unit combines practical outdoor learning with clear teaching sequences. Pupils observe real weather conditions, use simple forecast symbols and compare hot and cold places around the world in a way that is appropriate for Early Years.

Part of our EYFS geography scheme, which was highly commended by the GA, this unit supports early enquiry, encouraging pupils to ask questions, notice changes and explain what they observe.

Through regular outdoor experiences, the children develop confidence talking about weather and begin to understand how it affects everyday life.

Ideal for seasonal teaching or as part of your EYFS weather planning, the unit builds key vocabulary such as sunny, rainy, windy, forecast, hot and cold.

More about this EYFS weather unit

This EYFS weather unit provides a clear and engaging introduction to observing, describing and recording weather in Reception. As part of Understanding the World, pupils explore the natural environment through first-hand experiences, helping them to make sense of daily and seasonal changes.

Part of our primary geography scheme of work, which was highly commended by the GA, this unit supports progression through carefully sequenced lessons and clear skill development.

Across the six lessons, pupils build confidence in using weather vocabulary, recognising patterns and talking about differences between places. This Reception weather unit supports early geographical understanding through meaningful, real-life learning.

Each lesson includes clear planning, interactive slides and differentiated resources, alongside a knowledge organiser and simple assessment opportunities to support progression and help teachers track understanding over time.

Pupils are supported to:
