EYFS Geography Block 1

EYFS Geography – Street and House Detectives

This EYFS geography unit introduces Reception pupils to their immediate surroundings, supporting early learning in Understanding the World through observation, exploration and simple map work. Pupils begin to recognise features of their local area, talk about familiar journeys and draw information from simple maps.

Across six lessons, this Reception geography unit helps pupils explore their environment through local walks, discussion and practical activities. The unit develops early geographical understanding in a meaningful way, with opportunities for the children to observe, describe and ask questions about the world around them.

Part of our EYFS geography scheme, this unit provides clear progression in key skills and supports early enquiry through real-life experiences.

Ideal for the autumn term or as part of your EYFS local area planning, pupils develop confidence using vocabulary such as map, journey, near, far, local and area.
