EYFS Geography Knowledge Organiser – What Can We Explore?
Our EYFS geography knowledge organiser for the unit What Can We Explore? is designed to support Reception pupils as they learn about their local area, different places in the UK, and the changing seasons. It brings together the key facts, vocabulary and visuals pupils need to recall and apply their learning.
This organiser includes:
- ✔️ Clear examples of different places in the local area – such as post offices, shops, libraries, parks and churches – helping children make connections with their community.
- ✔️ Photographs of contrasting environments in the UK, including countryside, city and beach locations, to highlight geographical similarities and differences.
- ✔️ A simple guide to the four seasons – spring, summer, autumn and winter – with images to support recognition of seasonal changes.
- ✔️ Key information on where people work, including farmers, firefighters, shop assistants and vicars, showing how roles link to places in the community.
- ✔️ A vocabulary bank with age-appropriate definitions for words such as building, workplace, map, countryside, city, beach and season.
This Reception geography knowledge organiser makes it easy for pupils to revisit essential learning, use accurate geographical vocabulary, and build confidence in describing the world around them. It is fully aligned with EYFS outcomes and supports enquiry-based geography teaching.
