Nursery Maths Block 5: Begin to Order Number Names
Nursery begin to order number names maths activities
Support early counting with this Nursery Begin to Order Number Names maths lesson pack. The children begin to say number names in the correct order, focusing on 1, 2 and 3, and develop their understanding that objects, actions and sounds can all be counted.
Across the six lessons, the children practise ordering number names through practical activities, familiar rhymes and movement. They use their fingers to represent 1, 2 and 3, count objects and actions, and build confidence saying number names in sequence as part of everyday Nursery experiences.
The six lessons are designed to be taught flexibly over approximately two weeks, with around three lessons each week. This allows time for the children to revisit their learning through continuous provision and everyday routines, and works well in Nursery settings where children may attend on different days.
What’s included
- Six Nursery Begin to Order Number Names lesson plans
- Nursery Begin to Order Number Names slides
- Practical counting and movement activities
- Activities for representing 1, 2 and 3
- Counting rhymes and continuous provision ideas
- Key questions and stem sentences
The practical activities give the children repeated opportunities to hear and use number names in the correct order, while beginning to connect spoken numbers with quantities and representations. This builds secure foundations for counting and later number learning.
